Jouett Elementary School, in eastern Louisa, has implemented the highly-regarded Responsive Classroom curriculum, which develops the rhetorical and conversational skills of students through daily interactions. In fact, more than 80% of our young Trailblazers are reading at-or-above grade level as of 2023! Jouett Elementary School has also recently implemented a FLEX Library system, allowing for more opportunities for collaboration and critical thinking across the curriculum. Jouett Elementary School also recently implemented a tribe system throughout the school, where students receive recognition for exceeding expectations academically and behaviorally. Through the tribe system, our Trailblazers at Jouett Elementary School encourage one another and work together, building up school spirit in the process! Take a stroll through Jouett Elementary School, and it’s easy to see the school truly lives up to its motto: Be Legendary!

Opening in 2010, Moss-Nuckols Elementary School is the newest school in the division, serving the quickly-growing Zion Crossroads area. Similar to the tribal system at Jouett Elementary School, Moss-Nuckols Elementary School features a unique learning system called The Dens of Determination! Our Foxes have truly bought into the strategy, which has brought a sense of pride and ownership throughout the building. In fact, you’ll want to keep a close eye on televisions throughout the school, which display students who are achieving points for their den through positive actions and hard work! Moss-Nuckols Elementary School also features a student-led garden, where Foxes raise various crops such as lettuce, potatoes, and more! The vegetables are then served in the school cafeteria, which brings learning to life and exposes students to new foods all at the same time!

The August 2011 earthquake may have destroyed the previous school building at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, but the resulting challenges could not shake the heart of its dedicated faculty and staff. With its new building opening in 2014, our Patriots now roam the halls of a state-of-the-art school that is bright, warm, and inviting to all! For eight years now, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School has been fully accredited, and the Patriot Pride has never been higher! At Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, you’ll find alternative learning spaces throughout the building and in the courtyard, allowing for expanded learning opportunities. The school also regularly hosts Buddy Days, through which our older Patriots mentor their younger counterparts!

At Trevilians Elementary School, serving western Louisa County, our Eagles spread kindness like confetti and display academic excellence all at the same time! One way is through the school’s Career Store, a center within the school that includes child-friendly versions of restaurants, construction zones, a doctor’s office, and more! The center helps students learn math, science, and economics while strengthening their social skills. And though Trevilians Elementary School may be the school division’s smallest in terms of enrollment, it’s still a headline-getter! In 2019, the school division’s use of virtual reality headsets in the classroom was highlighted by ClassVR, an internationally recognized producer of VR headsets! Recent data also shows that Trevilians Elementary School students were excellent readers, with approximately 80% of students reading on-or-above grade level.

Louisa County Public Schools is proud of its small-town charm and rural setting, but make no mistake, it boasts world-class results.
