At the beginning of the school year, Jouett Elementary School launched its aquaponics program, which combines the process of raising fish and growing plants
Solid waste provides an organic food source for the plants, and at the same time, the plants naturally filter the water for the fish!
Two months later, here’s what their program looks like now!
Currently, students are growing Swiss chard and lettuce, which is then used in the school’s cafeteria for lunch!
The water, which is rich in nutrients, is also used to help plants in the school’s Student Gardens!
Great job, Trailblazers!
