Librarians Lewis Coleman and Rebecca Sharpley recently came up with a fun way for students at Louisa County Middle School to put their critical thinking skills to the test!

The lesson started with an appearance by principal Amanda Harper, who introduced a “theft” that had recently occurred where an ancient artifact was smuggled out of a museum!

Students were given a packet of evidence to help solve the case, as well as a list of suspects.

Students used concepts like ratios to determine the suspect’s height based on the size of their footprints, and they used formulas to narrow down which suspects had a bag large enough to stash the loot!

The fun and engaging lesson helped bring the scientific method to life for students!

“It’s great to see,” Sharpley said. “It’s great watching them realize something and having that moment where they make that connection. It’s really great and to see them having fun is amazing.”

“It’s really cool,” added Coleman. “I love having them get the dossier, see the profiles, and then start connecting the dots.”

Well done, Bobcats!
