LCPS Launches New #Kindness Initiative

LCPS Launches New #Kindness Initiative
Posted on 09/30/2025
Louisa County Public Schools is proud to announce the kickoff of its 10th annual Kindness Month, a division-wide initiative dedicated to promoting compassion, service, and community spirit. This year’s theme, #Kindness: A Decade of Difference,” marks a significant milestone in the school division’s ongoing commitment to fostering kindness in classrooms, schools, and the community at large.
“Ten years ago, we began what has now become one of our most cherished traditions at LCPS,” said Superintendent Doug Straley. “In that time, we’ve rallied our students, staff, and community around projects that have made a real difference — whether through community cleanups, showing appreciation for veterans and first responders, or raising funds for schools and families in need. Together, as one team and community, we’ve proven that kindness has the power to unite and uplift.”
#Kindness has been a consistent point of emphasis at LCPS during Straley's tenure as Superintendent. In the past decade, LCPS has hosted two division-wide pep rallies, organized multiple community clean-ups covering hundreds of miles of local roadways, and launched countless acts of service — from students writing thank-you cards for veterans to fundraising efforts that generated more than $30,000 for flood relief in Grayson County.
This October, LCPS will revisit some of its most impactful initiatives, reintroducing them in a month-long celebration designed to inspire new acts of kindness across the division.
Kindness Month 2025 Schedule:
Week 1 (October 6–10): Honoring Veterans Students will create thank-you cards for veterans, while the division will collect donations for the local VFW during its home football game vs. Goochland on October 10. A special Military Appreciation halftime show will also take place.
Week 2 (October 13-17): Kindness Within LCPS A Ten Acts of Kindness Challenge will encourage students and staff to bring kindness to life within schools across the division.
Week 3 (October 20-24): Supporting Nonprofits and Charities Each LCPS school will adopt a cause or organization, providing students and families with opportunities to give back in meaningful ways.
Week 4 (October 27-31): Celebrating the Community Students will send postcards and messages of gratitude to first responders and other everyday community heroes who make Louisa a special place to live and learn.
“Kindness Month reminds us that no matter our backgrounds or circumstances, we all have the power to brighten someone’s day,” added Straley. “This year, we not only celebrate a decade of difference, but we also look ahead to the many more lives we can touch through acts of kindness.”
Louisa County Public Schools invites all students, families, and community members to join in celebrating Kindness Month 2025 and to help continue building a culture of compassion and unity.
