The Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America class at Louisa County Middle School has come up with a unique way for LCMS students to appreciate themselves. And soon, their initiative will be on display for the entire school to see!

On Tuesday, February 12th, FCCLA students spent their lunch period inviting their classmate sand teachers to think of something positive about themselves. Then, the FCCLA students had their classmates and teachers write those thoughts down on a paper heart. By the end of the lunch period on Tuesday, a stack of hearts several inches high had already formed!

On Thursday, the dozens of hearts will be used to create a billboard at the school, which will be called The Rainbow of Confidence. The billboard will be on display in the cafeteria, so students will be able to see it during the LCMS Valentine’s Dance on Friday!

“I think it’s going to make the school a better place, because it’s going to make students feel kinder and meet new people and new friends,” LCMS seventh grader Nathan Ritchie said.

LCMS FCCLA advisor Gracie Quarles said she was particularly encouraged by the initiative shown by the students who participated.

“It feels great that they’ll take the opportunity,” Quarles said. “ They’ll come out of their comfort zone and walk over and take a chance to write something positive!”

The initiative was part of FCCLA Week, which lasts from February 11th to the 15th. Each day during the week, FCCLA groups nationwide are encouraged to inspire and motivate their fellow students!

“Everybody has something good about themselves,” Quarles said. “We want to bring that to the forefront.”
