Harlem Wizards visit LCPS
Posted on 02/21/2018

For hundreds of kids, school was never more fun than in was on Wednesday, February 21st!

Rashaan “Rocket” Barner of the Harlem Wizards toured all six Louisa County Public Schools campuses that day, demonstrating a vast variety of trick shots, ball handling skills and jokes!

The Harlem Wizards are a show basketball team very similar to the Harlem Globetrotters. The Wizards mission is to entertain audiences by fusing basketball with dance, comedy, and trick shots.

As a member of the Wizards, “Rocket” spends his time traveling to schools across the country. His good-nature demeanor and incredible talent with a basketball make him the perfect guest. Barner has been a member of the Wizards since 2002. He graduated from William Paterson University, and was a Division III All-American. The team’s official websites lists him as “one of the funniest” Wizards, a reputation Barner had no problem upholding on Wednesday.

And aside from demonstrating his skills with a basketball, Barner also spoke with students about the importance of education and hard work. At each stop, he took time to pose for dozens of photos with students and staff members.

The visit was orchestrated by the Louisa Education Foundation (LEF). LEF has also arranged for the entire Wizards team to return to Louisa County Public Schools on Saturday, March 10th. Members of #TeamLCPS will battle it out with the Wizards in a matchup that is sure to feature dunks, acrobatics, and a fair amount of good-natured trash talk!
