PowerSchool Incident Update

Greetings #TeamLCPS:

At Louisa County Public Schools, we prioritize clear and comprehensive communication. Accordingly, we want to make you aware of a recent incident concerning PowerSchool.

Earlier this week, PowerSchool, an international company that provides student information system (SIS) services to many school districts, announced that it had experienced a cybersecurity incident in late December. Although the security of PowerSchool’s systems has been restored, data pertaining to students and educators at hundreds of school divisions around the world were subjected to unauthorized access.

Since Louisa County Public Schools utilizes some PowerSchool tools, we have asked PowerSchool to identify the scope of impact this incident may have had on our school community. PowerSchool has advised us that they are investigating the matter and will directly notify any impacted individuals with details of how they may have been affected. We want to stress that the breach was limited to PowerSchool’s internal systems, and the security of our local LCPS networks was not breached.

We also want to assure you that Louisa County Public Schools is committed to protecting the data of our students, staff, and families. If you have further questions, contact our team at Louisa County Public Schools by calling 540-894-4673.
