Greetings #TeamLCPS;

Earlier today, the Governor’s office announced that schools throughout the Commonwealth will be closed for the rest of the year. This is the latest development in what has been an unprecedented and unpredictable situation. However, our students, teachers, and staff members are a family. Just like families do, we are going to respond to this challenge!

Looking ahead to tomorrow, our school division will be speaking directly with the Virginia Department of Education. At that time, VDOE officials will be providing specific guidance to school divisions for how we should handle many of the issues this announcement has created, such as graduation, continuity of learning, and more.

Again, guidance for those categories will be sent to us by the VDOE within the next 24 hours. Once we receive that guidance, we will update you on the plan here at #TeamLCPS!  What is most important for me..is that we are looking out for our students’ education.

Parents and guardians, please know that even though schools are closed, #TeamLCPS is committed to making sure the learning doesn’t stop! As educators, all of us here at #TeamLCPS believe it is our responsibility, and our privilege, to continue providing alternative learning resources for our students! We’ll provide more details later this week.

Finally, our LCPS Community Meals Program is not affected by this closure. So we’ll continue to be out in the community on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m. serving nutritious meals at Jouett Elementary, Trevilians Elementary, and the Louisa County Resource Council.

Those are the immediate updates we have for you right now, and again, we’ll have a lot more answers for you later this week after we receive guidance from the Virginia Department of Education.  We will communicate out to you as we have more concrete guidance.

#TeamLCPS, we know this has been a tough day. But since we began our very first efforts in dealing with this situation, this community has rallied together to get the job done right. And that’s not going to change!

To our students, families, and staff: I love you guys. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way throughout this situation.   We’ve got this.

We are #TeamLCPS, and we’re going to show the world that #LouisaLEADS.
